Syvlana Simons lashes out cynically at police: 'If I had come for coffee an arrestee wouldn't have been tased to death'

Today it was revealed that police played a significant role in the death of a 32-year-old man. On June 9 of this year, the man was tased at the time of his arrest. Shortly thereafter, he became unwell and died. Sylvana Simons responds to this cynically. Because, she says, if she had gone for a cup of coffee with the police, I'm sure this wouldn't have happened.

Sylvana Simons is widely criticized for treating and addressing the police in a nasty way. She is seen as "anti-police. That is why reacts she is now very cynically responding to the news that a group of ten police officers who were called in because "a confused man" had jumped onto a vehicle are temporarily not allowed to work on the streets because their decision to taser him resulted in his death.

"If only I had gone for coffee with the police," Simons writes on Twitter, "this would have been prevented." She means that cynically, of course. It's a reference to criticism of her as being anti-police. What she means is: if she had, it would have made absolutely no difference and this arrestee would have died, too.

Then Simons wishes the surviving relatives strength and adds that she is curious about the reaction of the Rotterdam police. Because, she states, in this way "no citizen is safe."

After the man's death, the State Police decided to investigate whether the tasing operation might have something to do with his death. The answer is rather obvious, and it indeed turns out to be true. According to the prosecution, it is indeed due to the tasing that he is dead. The National Criminal Investigation Department and the prosecution base this on statements from witnesses, camera recordings of the whole event, and of course on the findings of a (forensic) doctor.

Sylvana Simons is known for having little appreciation for the police. As a Black Lives Matter activist/politician, she believes the police use force far too quickly, especially on suspects of color. She sees the death of the arrestee in question as yet another proof that the police cannot be trusted - and that civilians can be killed just like that by our ladies and gentlemen in the blue uniform.
