Kaag furious after 'racist reactions' to finance ministry video: 'Racism is deep-rooted problem in our society'

Minister of Finance and D66 leader Sigrid Kaag posted an angry video online today in which she tells Dutch citizens the truth for a while. The reason? The Ministry of Finance had put an educational video online yesterday featuring an immigrant speaker. According to Kaag, there were racist reactions to this. This proves, she says, that racism is a "deep-rooted problem" in our society.... and so she is telling us the truth.

I have not seen the earlier video, nor can I now. In fact, Finance has taken it offline. This, says Kaag, to "protect the official in question." After all, there really would have been "racist drek" left behind.

Kaag briefly uses this opportunity to dismiss the entire Dutch people as racist to the max, and speak to us edifyingly.

"A Ministry of Finance employee explained in a video on Twitter about new consumer protection proposals," also Kaag, who is often called a "witch" by Geert Wilders. "There were racist reactions to this video. No comment on the content, but pure hatred and insult."

"I. Find. This. Unacceptable," Kaag continued in the tone of an elderly mother who is thoroughly disappointed in her naughty children. "We took the video down to protect the employee and to not give these deeply sad texts any further stage."

And then it comes. "It does show again that racism is a deep-rooted problem in our society." But she's not done yet. Because, of course, social media also has to come into play: "Social media is used by some as a sanctuary for racist drek, among other things.

"It is important to speak out, to report racism, AND to condemn it when we encounter it," she concludes.

Racism, of course, is bad and we should all condemn it. Judging someone on their appearance is waning, ridiculous, idiotic. By the way, this is something that D66'ers should also remember, because those very people have a hand in judging "white men" negatively by definition purely because of their gender and skin color. But when it comes to white men they think it is okay. We of DDS don't. Never

On top of that, although racism is abhorrent you cannot have a free society where racism is outlawed by law (and/or actions censored on Twitter). The way to deal with racists is to publicly address their misconduct, not by silencing them - no matter how outrageous their opinions sometimes are.
