Today Inside commentator Johan Derksen expressed his delight at the fall of the fourth Rutte Cabinet on July 7, 2023. On the television program the Orange Summer, where he dialed in last night, he did not fail to express his enthusiasm about this political development.
"I just walked away from the polonaise for a while. I'm happy about it though and I hope that now Rutte's embarrassing ego trip is at an end," Derksen declared. He expressed his criticism of Rutte's leadership by claiming that the former prime minister "created chaos, total chaos in the Netherlands."
Derksen mentioned several issues that he believes mark Rutte's legacy, including the problems in Groningen and Limburg, the allowance affair, asylum problems, the nitrogen crisis, increasing poverty and the growing pressure on food banks. "He created it all himself, didn't he?" stated Derksen rhetorically.
The fall of the Rutte IV cabinet leaves a political void that needs to be filled, and the commentator also had his own take on this. Derksen expressed his doubts about the BBB, a party he does not yet fully trust, but then brought up a striking idea: the PVV.
"I would never vote for Geert Wilders' party, but I do think he represents a very large part of Dutch voters," Derksen argued. He went further by stating that left-wing parties often "cancel" people with dissenting opinions, and he fears that Wilders' loyal supporters will be pushed aside after each election.
"I hope that if Wilders is open to it and comes up with sensible proposals, that it will be considered. You can disagree, but I don't agree with D66 and GroenLinks and I'm not in favor of those people being canned and not being allowed to play a role anymore. I don't think Wilders is more troublesome than a party like ChristenUnie."

There is no chance that this will be heeded by all parties. Last night, VVD party chairwoman Sophie Hermans already excluded the PVV from cabinet participation. Indeed, the arrogance of the VVD knows no bounds.
