In a joint operation, Dutch and German authorities Thursday dismantled a terror network suspected of preparing attacks. In the Netherlands, a man (29) from Tajikistan and a woman(31) from Kyrgyzstan were arrested on suspicion of involvement in the network.The man is also suspected of membership in IS. The Dutch intelligence service,the AIVD, received information about the couple and subsequently notified the police and the Public Prosecution Service.
Although the concrete plans for an attack were not yet fully worked out, the clues were sufficient to take action, the prosecution stated. The man was arrested in Eindhoven, while the woman was arrested in Breda. It is not known whether they also lived there. Both will be arraigned Friday in Rotterdam. At the moment they are under restrictions, which means that they may only have contact with their lawyer and the investigation team.
During the investigation, Dutch and German authorities worked closely together. It turned out that the suspected man was in contact with several persons in western Germany. As a result, seven suspects were also arrested in Germany. These men are from Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.According to the German prosecutor's office, they traveled toGermany in the spring of 2022 and possibly had targets in mind. In addition, they were trying to obtain weapons.
