BBB MP criticizes minister and accuses wolf experts of hidden agenda

Gelderland States member Eric Kemperman of the BoerBurgerBeweging (BBB) has during a debate on the presence of wolves in the province criticized of a minister, presumably Christianne van der Wal. Kemperman accused the minister of blindly following the advice of so-called wolf experts follow the advice of so-called wolf experts, who he said are actually wolf protectors in disguise. He suggested that these experts deliberately want to promote the presence of wolves in Gelderland in order to promote the presence of wolves in Gelderland in order to prevent the shooting of this protected species.

The BoerBurgerBeweging (BBB) called for more measures against wolves in Gelderland because of attacks on sheep herds. BBB is the largest party in Gelderland and is part of a coalition with CDA, VVD, ChristenUnie and SGP. In the coalition agreement, the parties have indicated their intention to lobby for a reduction of the wolf's protected status.

Kemperman stressed that the party does not necessarily want to kill all wolves, but that the province must maintain control and not depend on organizations with their own ideals. The coalition, along with the PVV, has introduced a motion to have further research done on the wolf's DNA. This motion has a majority in the Provincial Council. The University of Wageningen is currently conducting DNA research on wolves in the Netherlands, but according to the parties, the information obtained is incomplete.

The parties particularly want to rule out the presence of hybrid wolves in Gelderland present, which are wolves crossed with dogs. If wolf DNA becomes too often gets mixed with that of dogs, the animal can no longer be considered a true wolf and loses its protected status. This would make it easier to shoot the animals.

BBB also calls for more DNA research to find out if wolves live in Gelderland live with DNA coming from different parts of Europe. Kemperman did not specify specifically why this would be relevant, but he suggested that this could shed a whole new perspective on whether the wolf came to Gelderland spontaneously.
